Travelogue: Taiwan Day 2 WufenPu and RaoHe Night Market

Day 2...Set off at around 1pm and started with a cup of 50 Lan! Bubble tea there is a must have!
Only TWD45 I think!
Once we got our Bubble Tea, we set off in search of the ever famous Ah Zong Mian Xian.
It's located in the heart of Ximending yet you need to know which corner to turn because it's hidden in a slightly quieter lane. Ask around, people there are all very friendly and helpful.

Not as crowded because it was off peak hours. No chairs, so you got to stand around.

This is the lane Ah Zong is located at

We ordered  a large bowl to share. If you want it spicier or more "vinegar", there is a station at the corner for you to add in your desired quantity
The mian xian comes with pig's intestine and you won't find a single oyster. Be disappointed!
The verdict: Tastes average and nothing "WOW" about the bowl. Taste is lighter than that of Tshih Lin Market here
After filling our tums tums...we're off to Wufen Pu!!
Directions to WufenPu:

1. From Ximen Station, take the train that goes to Taipei Nangang Education Centre
2.Take all the way and alight at "HouShanpi" Station
3. Look for Exit 1 and head towards the Exit.
The pictures below will explain the directions further.

4. You should be facing this once you exit from Exit 1. Walk towards it and there is a cross junction. Cross the road and follow the directions.

5. Once you spot CosMed, cross towards it and you are there!

6. To reassure yourself, opposite CosMed should be the famous  "Lu Rou Fan" Restaurant

7. Start shopping!!!
We were hungry after a few hours of shopping and thus, headed to the to famous "Formaso Chang". They have a few outlets, 1 even in Ximending.

We ordered a set meal consisting of the soup, bean sprouts, 3 layered pork and 1 small bowl of lu rou fan and 1 ala carte lu rou fan and ala carte pig's trotter.

The verdict: Very flavourful and tastes so different from the way pork is braised in Singapore.Very worth trying and all these for TWD261

We had it again on our last day!

We ended our shopping at Wufenpu earlier than expected and decided to try our luck at Raohe Night Market.
The walk there is really long and tiring but all you need to do to get there is to follow the signboards and mostly walk straight all the way from Wufenpu.
You should see this and there will be Raohe Night Market

Reached there around 5pm or 5.30pm? Yup. Good to arrive early because it is less crowded and you get to see this place before it turns dark
Trying to get a shot with the RaoHe signboard but failed attempt!

The famous "Hu jiao bing" that everyone talks about !And we managed to buy them without the long queue everyone mentioned
Had to wait for them to heat up the pastry

Yeah! Hot hu jiao bing. Can't wait to give it a try
TWD45 for a big piece and you get a small piece for free
It's actually just minced pork with spring onions and pepper.

Verdict: Forget about queuing up. If you really want this, just buy a "big pork pau" in Singapore and mix  it with the crust of "Kong pia". There's nothing really special about this, B and I didn't even finish half of it. We were disappointed with the taste actually.
Feeling hot and thirsty, we decided to settle at a stall selling iced mango and fruits dessert and I say, this is DA BOMB! Don't know why no one blogged to say this is a must try but I tell you, go for this!!!
We decided on a simple Iced Mango and this costs only TWD80.

Our Verdict: Generous servings of large Mango pieces served with fruit jely and drizzled with evaporated milk, it tastes so good that we wiped this out within minutes.
The menu. Some options served with kiwis, strawberries and ice cream. You'll be spoilt for choice!
While waiting for our dessert, something smelled famliar and I spotted the stinky tofu nearby! So we got this for TWD45 and...

Our Verdict: B didn't like it but I enjoyed it because the taste isn't as strong as those in Hong Kong and it goes so well with the sour veggies and chilli. If I weren't so full from the other items, I would have finished these. It was also hot and crispy. Quite fresh actually.
After some shopping and walking around, we bade farewell to Raohe night market.

Raohe has stuff retailing at a cheaper price than those sold in Shih Lin and if you looked hard enough, you'll be able to get many good buys! Can bargain at some shops too! But mostly no bargaining because they are really the lowest priced I've seen in Taiwan!
This was on of our best buys!! Ted is now our new companion! And after resting for awhile in the hotel, we decided to head out for some supper
Don't need to queue at Shih Lin just to try the ever famous Hot Star. Just Ximending can satisfy that craving!
Not just XXL chicken, they sell other items like Chicken Nuggets, Tenpura, Long beans etc

Shisamo! My favourite. So much so that I had to have this at least once everyday. The Shisamo are bigger in size and so much crunchier and tastier to bite into. You won't regret getting this!
XXL Chicken. Nothing fantastic, quite ordinary and too much for 2 pax. We couldn't even finish half of this!

Lemon Chicken fillet. Quite pathetic. Only 3 pieces but the chicken is really soft and succulent and you can taste the lemon here. A must try too!
And so....we ended Day 2 tired and knocked out within minutes after washing up! More on the other days coming up!
