Yong Tau Foo

What comes to your mind when healthy eating is mentioned? You'll probably have food like Salad, Fish Soup and Yong Tau Foo on your list of healthy eating.

Many years ago when I was working in town, my ex colleagues introduced me to this tasty Yong Tau Foo stall. The 1st thing that came to my mind was "Aren't Yong Tau Foo all the same?"

But boy! was I proven wrong. For those who do not know what Yong Tau Foo is, you can read about it here.

I would usually go for the soupy one because then you'll consume lesser gravy which is quite high in calories.

What's so tasty and unique about this stall is their specialty: the handmade fried meatballs! Don't ask me how it taste like but it is crispy on the outside, very flavourful and 1 is never enough.

Besides the meatballs that is a must try, the mushrooms and wantons are to die for! They soak their mushroom in a special sauce and when you bite on it, the sauces oozes out from the mushroom and you can really taste the mushroom. The wanton is very crispy and the meat portion is pretty generous too.

I decided to pack this back to my office for lunch because I was eating alone and the unique thing about this place is that you are not allowed to "chope" seats. You need to queue and place your orders before looking for a seat. Usually, even during lunch hours, there will be ample seats for all.

This is definitely worth a try if you're ever in town before 6pm and don't expect your meal to be cheap because 1 item costs about 60cents to a dollar and can simply set you back by $7 to $8.

Shiok Maki

About 8 years ago, an ex colleague introduced me to a world of "Shiok-ness" when you bite into a piece of sushi. 1 would never have thought that a piece of sushi can bring so much satisfaction to a good meal.

What's more, this place is pretty affordable and they have very value for money bento sets. I introduced this to my bf and ever since his first piece, he got equally hooked. Alot of bloggers have been blogging about this and now, the queue is pretty long whenever it is peak period. Still, let me share this wonderful Shiok Maki with you!

Shiok Maki consisting of Ebiko, salmon, cheese and avocado

The boyf's bento set for I think $10.90 or $12.90

That's my bento set.
All in all, it was a satisfying meal. Don't order too much Shiok Maki because it can become a tad too "jelat".

Mookata at East Coast

Ever since I was introduced to the world of Mookata, I've been hooked and when my bff wanted to meet up, I thought why not share the joy of mookata with her. As we both live in the East, it would be best to be able to locate a Mookata stall in the East side besides the ever crowded Golden Mile.

Hence, we decided to give this a try.

As it was a weekday, we had the option of ala carte or buffet menu but decided to go ala carte since we were gonna go for desserts thereafter.

Dishes for 2. There were 3 levels of chilli that you can choose from. Level 1 being the least spicy to 3 being the spiciest. As we weren't sure how spicy the chilli were, we decided to go for all 3. Fel ended up taking level 1 while I couldn't get enough of level 3. The chilli ain't that spicy but it goes really well with the meat and food items.

The broth was tasty enough that you just can't get enough of it.

Our verdict: Tasty broth, nice chilli sauce but portion was a tad too little even for us 2 ladies. The money spent wasn't that worth it. I would rather pay the same amount but get more food items at Golden Mile. Perhaps I should give their buffet a run for their money.

Hello!

Hello! I've decided to start a food & travel blog simply because I love to eat & travel! And I realised how useful blogging is especially to people who wants to try places and food that they may not have come across. And because I am typically "cheapskate" when it comes to food, most of the places to eat are all affordable places. =)

And when I was doing a research for an upcoming trip, it was the bloggers that provided me with all the necessary information.
Hence, I'm gonna make some effort in blogging myself and hope it helps u too!

Jo stands for my name Joanna and et in short for eat and travel. Because so many blog names are taken, and I do not want to create a long blogname...so Jo-Et!

Easy to remember right? Start sharing my blog ok??

Cheerios!
