Travelogue: Taiwan Day 3 Dan Shui, Fisherman's Wharf & Lover's Bridge

Day 3

Started the day later than usual since we wanted to catch the sunset at Fisherman's Wharf. Set off around 2pm that day.

Decided to grab some light bites first

Tried their fried calamaris but it was so tough and difficult to chew on!

My daily must have Shisamo!!

Healthy bubble tea consisting of apple, pear, passionfruit, aloe vera and nata de coco

In the very weird aligned Metro

Some caption I came across in the train and decided to snap  a pic. It means "My life is decided by me and not God"

Be very careful when you reach this station "Beitou" because apparently we had to cross over to the opposite track to get to Danshui and we weren't aware that the red line cuts off here.

You'll need to take the stairs down and up again just to get to the other track. Pretty similar to Tanah Merah Station concept.

Finally arrived at Tamshui station! Took us around 45 minutes to an hour to reach by Metro
Can someone pleas enlighten me on this?
The very pretty Tamshui Station

We got lost looking at this signboard so don't get confused by this.

Danshui Lao Jie is actually less than 2 minutes walk from the station and when you see this signboard, follow the handicap sign.

Perhaps, I should say that once you step out of the station, turn left, and walk behind towards their  park. You will see a Starbucks cafe and Danshui Lao Jie is located there.
We reached the middle of Danshui Lao Jie and decided to turn left

And finally saw the entrance!!

1 of the 1st few stalls at the entrace, this is a must try! They have 3 flavours - Custard, Red Bean and Carrot Cake. We bought 1 red bean for TWD10!
Looks ordinary?

Tastes great! Very generous fillings and the red bean didn't taste that sweet. You have to eat it while it's hot though, or it'll lose its crispiness.

Saw a stall selling the highly raved, much talked about Ah Gei and decided to settle our lunch there.
Ordered Ah Gei, Fishball Soup and Fried Onion Noodles

Ah Gei is a local favourite made of beancurd containing "dong fen" but it didn't taste nice  and the sauce was made of bean paste. B and I didn't like this at all.

Fishball soup. Soup tastes like our usual fishball broth but the fishball? It didn't have that "QQ" feeling. It was flourish and there was no "tang xin" to it.

The noodles: Didn't snap an invididual picture of it but it tasted the best out of all of the 3 dishes. Reminds me of the Fried Onions noodles served at La Mian Xiao Long Bao.

Worth giving it a try!

Trying to capture a shot of the cute sausage dog!

Busker at the park. He moves everytime someone drops a coin in his box.

At the park, on our way to the Ferry Terminal
There are quite a few stalls selling tickets to a few islands and we decided on Fisherman's Wharf . Bought Return tickets for TWD120 each.
There are about 5 ferry docks and ours is at C. The stallholders will tell you which dock to head to and even if you missed it, there are people at the entrance to assist you.

Poor B! Nursing a headache and feeling tired from all that rush! But still took a pic with me!

Off we go to Fisherman's Wharf!!

And we arrived! I'll let the pictures do the talking. They are mostly on the Sunset at different intervals.

And off we go! Before the ferry gets packed with more people, we decided to leave the moment we saw how Lover's Bridge lit up.

And we set off for Ning Xia Night Market! If you only get to go 1 Ye Shi, I would strongly recommend Ning Xia. Not as commercialised as the other Night Markets, this is where most locals can be seen frequenting and the quality of the food here won't disappoint.

Just a stone's throw away from Ning Xia, we spotted this shop selling "Ah E Jian" or what we call Orh Luak and here we are to give the dish a try!

First, you will need to order before finding a seat

This is how it looks. A lil gross eh? The sauce tastes a little like peanut gravy and the omelette was fried till it tasted crispy. Very generous servings of oysters too! So B and I didn't have to fight over them

Ordered Sesame Oil Pig's Liver Soup. Liver was cooked just right. It wasn't too bloody, and  very tender. Soup was a little too bland. It's like boiling water with sesame oil and ginger.

As we reached Ning Xia, there was a begger just lying down on the entrance!

They do not have as many stalls as the other ye shi, you will be able to complete this in like less than an hour.

Finally tried the White Bittergourd Juice.

TWD45 for a cup like this and it sure is bitter! Not something I would fancy but since it is good for health, I would be making my own fruit juice blend with some bittergourd in it.

Our favourite stall!

Selling Oysters, Clams and Sea Urchins at super ridiculous prices!

7 pieces of grilled oysters going for only TWD100 (about SGD4!)

Since it was so ridiculously cheap, we decided to go for 1 Sea Urchin and this costs us only TWD150 (About SGD6!!)

The meat was so fresh and juicy, we wiped this off in less den minutes!

I bought chicken hearts from this stall. They go by 50 or 100 grams and I went with the smaller portion. It was Chicken Overload but so yummy!

Was recommended to give this "Da Chang Bao Xiao Chang" a try but I didn't like it cos the glutiuous rice tasted weird and we were too full to finish this.

Decided to complete our pigging out with something sweet and settled for this ever popular "Mua Chee" dessert served with ice! It tasted sooooo good! Better than what we have here and I regretted not packing some back to the hotel.

After so much eating, we needed to quench our thirst once again and bought Starfruit Sugarcane. The starfruit overpowered the sugarcane and I felt like I was drinking Allswells' Starfruit Drink.
Still feeling a lil hungry after all that walking and when we reached Ximen Station, we thought we'll attempt 1973, another popular stall in Ximending. Thankfully no queue around 11pm.

Fried chicken served in small bites. Their chilli powder was spicier than Hot Star and their seasoning is very unique.

Oyster mushroom! Soft and Succulent, when you bite into it, it was very juicy too! This tasted better than Hot Star's.

To get to Ningxia Night Market:
Take the red line, alight at Shuanglian station and walk straight all the way.
